A Season of Inspiration and Preparation
This beautiful autumn season has felt like a powerful time of reflection and renewed purpose. My heart has been so full these past couple of weeks, drawing inspiration from so many different places.
Like so many of you, I was deeply moved by the memorial and funeral services for President Russell M. Nelson. Reflecting on his incredible life of service and his ability to connect with people all over the world has inspired me to work on improving my own "languages" of connection. I've felt a renewed desire to polish my Spanish and ASL, and to keep learning the beautiful languages of dance—swing, salsa, waltz, cha-cha, and more—that can bring so much joy and build community.
That spirit of inspiration continued through General Conference. I was especially touched by the messages about the power of music to teach the gospel, which is something so dear to my heart. It's a perfect reminder as I prepare for my new role leading the stake choir. I've been diving into studying rehearsal structures, trying out different vocal warmups, and praying about the hymns we will be singing. I'm so excited to help create a space where we can all feel the Spirit through music.
On a more local note, it was so fun to feel the energy of the Huntsman World Senior Games here in St. George! I was so proud to watch the opening ceremonies and cheer on all the amazing athletes, including my own father, who competed in table tennis this year. Seeing their dedication makes me toy with the idea of maybe competing myself one day—perhaps in square dancing!
At work, the season is also on my mind as I’ve been getting ready for Halloween with the kids. It’s been fun to study up on some Halloween-themed yoga poses, stories, and songs to share with them. On a more serious note, I’ve also been studying intently how to conduct the best possible multicultural and multilingual speech-language evaluations. It is so important to me that every child is assessed fairly, and I am working hard to ensure I'm doing everything I can to protect the civil rights of every student by not misidentifying a language difference as a disorder.
It’s been a full and rewarding week, and I’m feeling so grateful for all the opportunities I have to learn, serve, and grow. Wishing everyone a wonderful and inspiring autumn!
